About The Conference

Populations worldwide are ageing rapidly. By 2050, the global population aged 60 and older is projected to nearly double to 2.1 billion people since 2020. This demographic shift will herald a situation for the first time in history where older people will outnumber children, with one in five people in Asia and the Pacific projected to be over 60. While life expectancy has increased significantly, these additional years are not always lived in good health.

Globally, non-communicable diseases (NCDs) now account for 74% of all deaths, driven by conditions such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, and diabetes. As populations age, healthcare systems face escalating pressures from multimorbidity, frailty, disability, and rising healthcare expenditure.

Malaysia mirrors this global transition. The Department of Statistics Malaysia projects that Malaysia will officially become an aged nation by 2030, when 15% of the population will be aged 60 years and above. This demographic shift marks a rapid transition within 20 years making Malaysia one of the fastest nations to reach this status  According to the Ministry of Health Malaysia, NCDs contribute to over 70% of deaths nationally, with high prevalence of obesity, type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and hypercholesterolaemia among adults.

Malaysia’s healthcare system is now standing on the brink of a systemic crisis, driven by a tidal wave of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and intensified by a rapidly aging population. Our medical conversation must urgently evolve to address the perfect storm that our healthcare system is facing. While modern medical advancements have successfully increased our lifespan, the focus must now shift to healthspan—the period of life spent in optimal health, free from the debilitating chronic diseases associated with aging.

While longevity medicine seeks to extend lifespan, evidence consistently shows that lifestyle factors are the dominant determinants of both life expectancy and healthspan. Lifestyle Medicine is the vital cornerstone of this transformation to improve healthspan. It provides an evidence-based approach that utilizes therapeutic lifestyle changes to prevent, manage, and even reverse many chronic diseases with behavior modification.

This year, the Malaysian Society of Lifestyle Medicine invites healthcare professionals, policymakers, researchers, and wellness advocates to explore how lifestyle medicine serves as the scientific and clinical foundation of longevity medicine.

The conference this year with the theme Lifestyle Medicine: The Foundation Of Longevity Medicine aims to explore   transformative strategies that are   practical and scalable that can improve health outcomes, reduce disease burden, and extend not only lifespan but also healthspan.

With insights from leading experts, interactive workshops, mindfulness practices, and networking opportunities, this two-day conference and post-conference workshop   is an unparalleled platform to learn, share, and collaborate in reshaping the future of longevity medicine
